012Technician Certificate in Wildlife Management (TCWM)

The Technician Certificate in Wildlife Management is a one-year Program. The program runs from August to June each academic year.

  • Program Objective

    The program aims to provide students with training in the basic aspects of wildlife management ranging from Wildlife Biology and Ecology to Management approaches, in particular working with local communities. in addition, the program aims to develop discipline, communication skills, an ability to understand and follow instructions and professionalism in Technician Certificate Graduates.

  • Training Methology

    Training approaches includes lectures, Interactive structured lectures, directed and self directed studies, seminars, tutorials, students presentation, field and college based practical training exercises. Students participate in safari modules that might involves activities like Resources Inventory.

  • Assessment and Course Awards

    Students must gain 120 credits to be eligible for the an Certificate.These Credits are gained through passing all assessed Technician Certificate modules. In order to pass Technician Certificate modules, students must achieve a final module mark of not less than 50% ( Continuous Work Assessments and final Examination) and in addition,pass the final examination by a minimum 50%. Module assessment is based on a mixture of practical exercises, written assignments group and Individual exercises, reports and final examinations. Module continuous work assessment is 60% and the final examination is 40% of the final module mark, unless stated otherwise.

    iii. WMT05205 – Invertebrate Zoology and Wildlife Diseases
    iv. WMT05206 – Herpetology and Ichthyology
    v. WMT05207 – Ornithology
    vi. WMT05210 – Ballistics and Introduction to Military training II
    vii. WMT05211 – Wildlife Conservation Education and Communication

  • Entry Requirements

    1. Candidates must have completed and passed an ordinary level (O-level) in five subjects with C in both Biology and Geography or.

    2. Candidates with a Basic Technician Certificate in Wildlife Manage-ment (BTCWM) with a minimum GPA of 3.0 or;

    3. Candidates with at least two years of working experience in the Wildlife sector or other relevant field

    4. Candidates should be certified physically fit by a recognized physi-cian. This is due to the fact that the course entails paramilitary training.

    5. Applicants are required to submit filled application forms provided by the Institute with details of required qualifications to the Principal, attaching copies of relevant certificates.

    6. Applicants, who are employees of WD, District Council, TANAPA, NCAA, and NGOs, should submit their application forms through their employers.

    7. Applicants will be selected according to priority based on their academic performance.
